Crafting a Crocodile Mask for Kids
This project guides you through creating a wearable crocodile mask using egg cartons and basic supplies, suitable for educational activities, storytelling, pretend play, or keeping children entertained. It takes a few hours due to drying periods.

A crocodile mask will delight most children.
Children can create a crocodile mask as a hands-on project while learning about crocodiles, following a crocodile story, for use in a play or dress-up, or simply to pass the time when they are bored. Crocodiles can be told apart from alligators because crocodiles show some teeth even with their mouths closed, and their snouts are a bit narrower. Putting together the mask is straightforward, but because of waiting for paint and glue to dry, it will require at least two to three hours from start to finish.
Step 1
Measure and cut a piece of elastic long enough to go around the child's head. Join the two ends by sewing them together, letting them overlap by roughly one inch.
Step 2
Remove the lids from the egg cartons. Place the two cartons together with one stacked on the other. Use duct tape or masking tape to fasten them at one of the short ends. Apply green paint to the cartons and let them dry. On the top of the cartons at the end that is not taped, paint two black nostrils.
Step 3
From the cardstock, cut out two shapes for the crocodile's eyes. Attach them with glue to the top of the taped end of the egg cartons. Also cut triangular teeth from cardstock and glue them around the mouth edges.
Step 4
Attach the egg cartons to the elastic band using tape. Put the elastic band on the child's head so the mask sits in the middle of the forehead. Should the mask sag, you can make it more stable by gluing a vertical strip of 2-inch-wide cardboard onto the egg cartons, placing it over the elastic band so the elastic is held between the cardboard and the cartons.
