Use a standard oven for Makit & Bakit crafts.
Makit & Bakit (Make It and Bake It) Sun Catchers come with baking crystals that soften in the oven, forming see-through tinted panels inside a metal outline. By following the steps for a Makit & Bakit Sun Catcher, you can produce attractive ornaments to suspend in your windows at home or to give away. While baking, the plastic crystals release a harmless odor. Use a regular kitchen oven in a room with good ventilation, and keep the crystals away from the broiler or any open flame.
Step 1
Warm a standard oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 2
Place the cookie sheet flat on a stable surface. For the best outcome, avoid an insulated cookie sheet. Tear off a sheet of aluminum foil big enough to cover the cookie sheet. Put the foil over the cookie sheet and fold it around the ends and sides so it stays firmly in place.
Step 3
Set the flat side of the sun catcher frame onto the foil-covered cookie sheet.
Step 4
Use a teaspoon to scoop colored baking crystals and pour them into the frame's sections, leaving the hanging hole empty. For each section, fill with the chosen color so the edges are level with the frame and a mound of crystals sits in the center. Since baking crystals shrink, overfill the center of each section. Add more crystals or shift them with tweezers.
Step 5
Place the cookie sheet in the middle of the preheated oven. Bake for 15 to 25 minutes, until the crystals are smooth and glass-like. Different colors may melt at different speeds, so keep the sun catcher in the oven until every color melts smoothly.
Step 6
Take out the cookie sheet and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Peel the foil away from the back of the sun catcher. Keep in mind that popping or crackling sounds from the plastic during cooling are normal.
Step 7
Thread a string or ribbon through the hanging hole and suspend your sun catcher in a window.
