Gift-Wrapping Towels: A Step-by-Step Guide

Towels are a versatile present suitable for housewarmings, bridal showers, or nearly any event, but their size and shape make them tricky to wrap. This guide walks through selecting coordinating supplies, boxing the towels, covering the box with paper, folding the ends, and adding decorative finishing touches.

If gifting a set of towels, consider wrapping each type of towel in its own box.

Whether you are congratulating someone on a first home, celebrating a bride-to-be, or marking just about any other occasion, towels work well as a hostess gift, housewarming present, or bridal shower offering. The tricky part is the wrapping. Because towels tend to be big and bulky and usually do not arrive in their own container, they can be hard to wrap neatly. Selecting a box of the right dimensions and picking paper that matches the theme of your gift are key first steps toward a polished result.

Step 1

Pick tissue paper, wrapping paper, a bow, and ribbon whose colors and patterns work well together. Match the paper and accessories to the event. For a bridal shower, for example, choose a colorful bridal shower wrap and then select a ribbon and bow in a shade that complements it.

Step 2

Select a box sized for the towels. They should sit comfortably inside, neither crammed in nor loose enough to shift around. When gifting a set of towels, you might separate them into smaller groups and use several boxes rather than a single large one. Place tissue paper along the bottom of the box, lay the towels on top, and add another layer of tissue paper over them. Seal the box with tape.

Step 3

On a large, flat surface, unroll or lay out the wrapping paper with the printed side facing down. Set the box upside down in the middle of the paper. Pull two opposite edges of the paper up to meet at the center of the box's top, overlapping one edge over the other by 1 or 2 inches. Cut away any extra wrap. Pull the paper snug to remove wrinkles, then tape it in place.

Step 4

Rotate the box so one of the unwrapped sides faces you. Fold the top section of wrap down along the side of the box and pull it tight. Bring the right and left sides inward toward the center, then lift the bottom piece up and pull it tight. Smooth out wrinkles and tape each section down. Turn the box to repeat the same process on the opposite side.

Step 5

Finish the package with decorative ribbon, a bow, and the gift card. Yarn or fabric ribbon can stand in for standard curling ribbon. Rather than centering the ribbon on the box as usual, try positioning it off to one side or on a corner.
