Wicker Baskets

Baskets hung on a wall are decorative and functional.

Putting baskets on a wall brings a textured, lively quality that feels both novel and surprising. You can use wall-hung baskets purely as decoration, or you can put them to work holding small items such as mail, hand towels, gloves, and keys. Since baskets weigh very little, basic hardware or adhesive mounts will do the job.

Baskets as Display

Shallow baskets look best when their bases sit flat against the wall; adhesive mounting foam or small finishing nails can secure them. For deeper baskets, the basket's own construction offers options: thread a narrow cord or ribbon through the basket's rim, make a loop with it, and suspend the basket from a decorative wall hook. Grouping baskets in generous numbers on a focal wall will make the greatest visual impression.

Baskets as Storage

Rectangular baskets with stiff weaving can become shelves for lightweight objects if you fasten the basket bottoms to the wall using nails, or screws with wall anchors. If you have nesting baskets, you can connect them with cord and hang the set as a single wall unit. A basket that resembles a purse or tote bag can be hung simply by slipping its handle over a wall hook.
