Using Molasses as a Component in Ant Control

Ants often invade homes and yards in search of food, becoming a nuisance. While molasses alone does not eliminate ants, it can serve as a carrier for substances that do, offering a safer approach to reducing their numbers.

Ants frequently become a problem for households around the globe, as these small creatures detect food sources and quickly gather in large numbers to take them. When such a food source is located inside your home or on your lawn, these pests can cause significant issues in your living areas. Molasses provides a safe option for getting rid of these annoyances. Although molasses by itself will not eliminate ants, it can effectively mask other substances that do.

Step 1

Measure ½ cup of molasses and pour it into a bowl.

Step 2

Stir in 6 tbsp. of sugar along with either 6 tbsp. of dry yeast or 1 ½ tbsp. of borax, using a disposable plastic utensil to mix thoroughly.

Step 3

Transfer the mixture onto small lids or pieces of cardboard. If children or pets might access it, put the bait into baby food jars or plastic yogurt cups instead. Use scissors or a knife to make holes in the lids so ants can enter.

Step 4

Set these homemade traps in locations where ant problems have occurred, making them easy for the ants to discover.

Step 5

Refresh the bait weekly. Because of its sticky texture, some ants may get trapped in the bait. Those that escape will carry the mixture back to their colony and feed it to others, resulting in many deaths. Gradually, you can greatly lower the ant population.
