Using Castor Oil to Keep Gophers Out of Your Garden
Gophers dig through lawns and gardens looking for worms and insects, and they tend to favor areas with better soil. A simple homemade mixture of castor oil, dish soap, and water can serve as a deterrent. The solution is applied by spraying it across the affected lawn and garden.

When gophers search for worms and other insects, they can ruin a lawn or garden. The better the quality of your soil, the more likely it is that gophers will be drawn to your garden. A mixture made from castor oil, dish soap, and water offers a straightforward way to keep gophers away. Once the solution is prepared, it should be sprayed over the entire lawn and garden using either a spray bottle or a hose fitted with a spray attachment.

Castor oil will not kill gophers, it will repel them.
Step 1
Combine the castor oil with the dish soap and stir until the mixture turns foamy.
Step 2
Pour the castor oil and dish soap mixture into one gallon of water and stir it thoroughly.
Step 3
Transfer the solution to a spray bottle or spray hose attachment and apply it across your lawn and garden. Rain will wash the solution away, so the area needs to be sprayed again after it rains.
