Clamps will help you repair cracked particle boards.

Particle board is an engineered wood product made by combining wood scraps, sawdust, and glue, which is then pressed and heat-treated. This material is widely used in home construction and furniture manufacturing. Learning how to repair particle board can save you the money you would spend on a replacement, along with the time and irritation that comes with it. Whether you are using particle board for a specific project or general repairs, knowing the right tools and techniques helps you stay on track.

Step 1

Take out the screws that are already there.

Step 2

Use a blow dryer to clear any debris from the screw holes.

Step 3

Apply wood glue into the hole.

Step 4

Break off the burned ends of wooden match sticks and insert the sticks into the glue.

Step 5

Drive the screws back into the glue. As you tighten them, the screws force the wooden sticks into the gaps, filling the stripped hole and enabling the screw to secure the particle board effectively.

Step 1

Squeeze wood glue into the cracks.

Step 2

Use a piece of stiff paper, such as card stock, to push the glue deeply into the cracks and crevices.

Step 3

Cover the edge with plastic wrap. Position a scrap piece of wood on each side of the particle board and clamp them together. The wood protects the particle board from being damaged by the clamps. Allow it to dry overnight before taking off the clamps. If the glue is still wet, put the clamps back on and wait another night.
