Churches provide guidance and support to a vast number of individuals. Because of this, a church anniversary can be likened to a close friend's birthday. Everyone should join in the festivities, showing appreciation and recalling the church's journey. The celebration typically starts with a church service and is followed by a meal. The following steps will help you create a distinctive ambiance both inside the church and in the space where the meal will be served.

Step 1

Set apart pews for honored guests by decorating them with ribbons or floral arrangements. You might also consider giving these individuals corsages.

Step 2

Select flowers that either stand out against or harmonize with the church's interior colors. Ensure they are prominently arranged throughout the space.

Step 3

Think about buying a large banner to display on the church's exterior, publicizing the anniversary. The banner should state the number of years and extend an invitation for everyone to participate in the celebration.

Step 4

Create a timeline of key events in the church's history on a large piece of cardboard. Enhance it with pictures and place it on an easel close to the church's main entrance so that visitors can view it as they enter.

Step 1

Choose two or three very festive colors and use them to decorate the interior with streamers and balloons. Aim to make the space as lively as possible.

Step 2

Dress the tables with tablecloths. White is always a safe choice, but if your church anniversary is near Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter, select colors that coordinate with the upcoming holiday. For instance, if Easter is close to the anniversary date, opt for bright pastels like mint green, mauve, or cheerful yellow shades.

Step 3

Decorate each table with a centerpiece. The centerpiece can be a simple arrangement of flowers around a candle, or it can be more elaborate with added figurines of angels and saints. The centerpiece can also reflect the season: for example, if the church anniversary is near Christmas, you could make the centerpiece a miniature Christmas tree or wreath.

Step 4

Put a laminated card recognizing the anniversary at each place setting. On the back of the card, have a prayer printed.
