Crafting a Reunion Invitation Letter for Your Graduating Class

When a graduating class plans a get-together years later, the organizing group needs to reach out to former students. A written letter can serve as a warm, detailed way to share event specifics and encourage attendance.

Class reunions help old friends get back in touch.

Years after graduation, high school and college classes often hold reunions so that former students can reconnect and look back on shared memories. Once the initial planning work is finished, the committee responsible for the reunion needs to get in touch with class members, informing them about the gathering and passing along the details they need. Sending a letter is an effective approach because it adds a personal feel to the invitation and provides room to include more specifics for former classmates.

Step 1

Direct the letter to either "fellow classmates" or "the class of (year) at (school)." Using this approach eliminates the need to customize every single letter. A general salutation lets you produce a large batch at once rather than editing information and printing each one individually.

Step 2

Open the letter with a short anecdote about your class or a lighthearted line to capture the reader's attention. Doing so may persuade someone who is on the fence about attending to give it a second thought.

Step 3

Provide the full details about what will happen at the event. State the date, the time, and the venue, along with the attendance fee and who is invited. If any special activities are planned, list those as well.

Step 4

Encourage classmates to assist in contacting alumni whose whereabouts you could not determine. This helps circulate news of the event and may lead to a higher turnout.

Step 5

If a reunion website exists, invite classmates to check it out. Such a site can allow people to RSVP online, supply missing contact details, and review reunion information.

Step 6

Offer contact details so classmates can inform you whether they plan to attend or ask any questions they might have. Add a deadline for responses.

Step 7

Finish the letter by expressing your hope to see everyone at the reunion. If you are a married woman, add your maiden name so former classmates can identify you.
