Wedding Staircase Decor: Railing Embellishment Ideas
Turn a staircase into a celebratory focal point by wrapping rails with fabric in the wedding party's palette and adding floral accents at key points. Two approaches are outlined: a flowing draped design and a woven treatment with candlelight.

Peonies are the perfect accompaniment to organza and English lace.
Stair railings can serve as an ideal canvas for bringing wedding colors into the venue's backdrop. By layering white English netting with organza in the bridal palette, you create a setting that frames the bride's walk. Adding a few floral clusters at the top and bottom introduces festive touches and color without pulling focus from the bride. Railing decor for a wedding does not need to be heavy or elaborate to enhance the overall look.
Step 1
Request four additional small bouquets that coordinate with the bridesmaids' arrangements. As another option, ask the florist to combine six roses with greenery and baby's breath in hues that echo the bridesmaids' dresses.
Step 2
Begin at the top newel and wind organza in a shade matching the bridesmaids' dresses around it. Let the start of the organza hang nearly to the floor.
Step 3
Let the organza fall, then lift it to the stair railing after roughly four steps. Secure it to the railing using a zip tie. If the staircase has only about six steps, raise the organza to the railing after three steps instead.
Step 4
Wind the organza around the bottom newel and let the fabric fall to the floor. If no newel is present, fasten the organza to the lower end of the stair railing with a zip tie.
Step 5
Carry out Steps 2, 3 and 4 again using white English lace, positioning the lace over the colored organza.
Step 6
On the wedding morning, use zip ties to fix small florist bouquets at the top and bottom of each stair railing.
Step 1
Use zip ties to attach organza in the bridesmaids' colors to the top of the stair railing. If a top newel exists, wrap the organza around it.
Step 2
Thread the organza in and out around roughly every fifth baluster. Allow a slight drape, but keep the fabric no lower than six inches from the railing. Finish with a bow, then trim the fabric six inches from the railing.
Step 3
Repeat Steps 1 and 2 using English lace.
Step 4
Set votive candles in jars or other holders on each step. Put two on every step, near the railing but not directly beneath it.
Step 5
With zip ties, attach small bouquets of fresh flowers to the top and bottom of the railing. Light the candles.
