Every good fortune teller needs an atmospheric booth.
A believable fortune teller's booth depends on setting the right mood. If you achieve that, visitors will sense the enchantment right away. You can easily evoke a gypsy-style atmosphere using draped scarves, candles, and a handful of mysterious symbols. Stars and moons are common fortune teller motifs. Keep the lighting dim to boost the magical feel and help customers relax before you begin reading their future.
Step 1
Cover as much of the room or area as you can with fabric and scarves. To create low, colorful lighting, drape flame-resistant material over any electric lights.
Step 2
Set a table in the middle of the space. Cover it with a black or dark cloth. Using luminous craft paint, draw stars and other magical symbols on the cloth, then let it dry.
Step 3
Put a few fortune telling books and the deck of cards on the table's edge. Even if you don't use cards in your readings, they still contribute to the ambiance.
Step 4
Crumple silver foil into a "nest" bigger than your glass bowl and set it at the center of the table. Tuck battery-operated fairy lights into the middle, hiding the battery pack inside the foil. Turn the glass bowl upside down over the lights so they shine from within. Drape a scarf over the bowl.
Step 5
Position candles at both ends of the table and around the room.
