A plastic mirror can be crafted at home in roughly 30 minutes. These flexible, unbreakable mirrors are perfect for keeping in a purse, gym bag, or locker, and they are safe for anyone to use. Children and teenagers can handle them without risk of injury, and losing one doesn't mean replacing an expensive item. You can personalize your mirror by choosing a colored double-fold bias tape. If you have basic sewing machine skills, you can stitch a plastic mirror that withstands wear and tear better than a traditional glass mirror.

Step 1

Using a ruler, mark two 4-inch by 4-inch squares on the plastic mirror sheet. Plastic mirror sheets are flexible and simple to cut.

Step 2

Cut out the square from the plastic mirror sheet. With scissors, trim and round the corners. If rounding evenly is tricky, place a jar lid against the corner and cut along its curved edge.

Step 3

Use a sewing machine needle intended for sewing non-woven, thick materials.

Following your sewing machine manual, insert a 110/18 needle designed for leather or other thick, non-woven materials. Thread the machine as usual.

Step 4

Slide one edge of the plastic mirror square into the fold of the double-fold bias tape. Since the tape is double-folded, there are no raw fabric edges that need hemming.

Step 5

Use a wide zigzag stitch to sew the bias tape onto the mirror edges.

Set your sewing machine to a wide zigzag stitch and sew the bias tape onto the plastic mirror square. As you sew, rotate the mirror and keep inserting the mirror edge into the tape's fold until you return to where you started. Fold the raw fabric end under and stitch it. Cut the thread.
