Two Easy Methods for Making Aromatic Tissue Paper

Aromatic tissue paper adds a delicate fragrance to gifts and can keep stored clothes smelling fresh or be used for decorative paper flowers. You can create it either by spritzing with essential oils or by using cotton balls in a closed container.

Aromatic tissue paper brings a delicate scent to birthday or wedding gifts. It can also be used to wrap clothes for storage, helping them stay fresh-smelling, or to craft perfumed paper flowers for a centerpiece. There are two simple techniques for making scented tissue paper: one uses a light spray of fragrance, and the other relies on cotton balls. The spray method works best if you want a more pronounced scent, particularly for flowers, but the cotton ball approach is also quite effective.

Method 1: Spraying

Step 1

Pour your chosen essential oil into a spray bottle.

Step 2

Test the nozzle by spraying a couple of times away from the paper to make sure the misting setting works. You don't want to accidentally soak the paper and ruin it.

Step 3

Place a sheet of tissue paper on a flat surface.

Step 4

Hold the spray bottle about two feet above the tissue paper. Give one spray to scent the sheet, then let it dry completely before using or storing. Repeat with as many sheets as desired.

Method 2: Cotton Ball

Step 1

Spread several sheets of tissue paper flat in a large box. For a stronger scent, use five sheets or fewer. For a milder fragrance, use up to 10 sheets.

Step 2

Place three drops of essential oil onto a cotton ball. If using multiple scents, use a separate box and cotton ball for each one.

Step 3

Lay the sheet protector over the tissue paper, then set the cotton ball on top of the protector. If the cotton ball touches the paper directly, the oils will soak through and ruin the tissue.

Step 4

Close the box with its lid and let it sit for two to three days before taking out the tissue paper.
