Staining glass is a creative practice that involves applying layers of color to glass surfaces through various techniques. Artisans who make jewelry often turn to glass-staining methods to produce unique beads. While it might seem challenging to create stained glass items like beads, using herbal tea as a coloring agent simplifies the task and is safer than many alternative products because tea lacks harmful chemicals.

Step 1

Measure 1/4 cup of water and pour it into a small glass container or a dish safe for microwave use. Heat on high in the microwave until the water boils.

Step 2

Take the water out of the microwave and put in about 10 tea bags. Allow the tea mixture to cool down.

Step 3

Submerge each bead in the tea liquid and rotate it to ensure the entire surface is coated. Then, transfer the beads to a glass baking dish.

Step 4

Put the baking dish into an unheated oven and set the temperature to approximately 250 degrees. Let the glass beads bake for roughly 45 minutes.

Step 5

Take the beads out of the oven and allow them to cool. Use a damp paper towel to wipe each bead and remove any leftover stain.
