Easily remove candle wax from clothing with a butter knife and an iron.

Candles help create the right atmosphere in a room, but moving them around can easily cause wax to drip onto your clothes. Once wax soaks into fabric, it might seem like it will never come out. The good news is that removing candle wax from clothing is fairly simple and only requires a few minutes.

Step 1

Place the wax-covered clothing in the freezer and leave it there for five to 10 minutes. Wax is easiest to remove once it has become hard.

Step 2

Take the clothing out of the freezer and, right away, use a butter knife to scrape off as much wax as possible.

Step 3

Set your iron to the highest heat setting that is safe for the fabric with the wax spill.

Step 4

Put multiple paper towels beneath the wax stain and one paper towel on top of it. If the stain is on a part of the garment like a pant leg, where there is more fabric underneath, add extra paper towels below the stain. This prevents the wax from accidentally transferring to another section of the clothing when you apply heat to remove it.

Step 5

Press the iron onto the paper towel covering the wax for five seconds. Then lift the iron and check where the wax has been pulled out of the fabric and absorbed into the paper towel. Move the paper towel so a clean area covers the wax, and continue this process until all the wax is gone from the clothing.

Step 6

If an oily mark or a stain from candle dye is still visible, apply a spray stain remover to the clothing.
