Deodorizing thong underwear is the main factor when hand washing these delicates.
For intimate apparel, maintaining personal hygiene and proper garment care are intertwined. A number of detergents have the potential to irritate the skin or harm the delicate materials often used in undergarments. Thong underwear, though alluring and close-fitting, frequently presents difficulties when it comes to care and cleaning. Many underwear items carry fabric care labels marked "washable" -- for thongs, this designation typically means they should be washed by hand. While most washing machines offer gentle cycles and lingerie bags provide extra protection, the mechanical agitation can diminish the fabric's elasticity and lead to unwanted pilling.
Step 1
Fill a sink or plastic tub with cold water. Add a few drops of hand washing detergent. If the detergent label indicates using the cap as a measure, you will probably need to fill it halfway. When laundering multiple thongs, consult the product's label for the recommended detergent quantity.
Step 2
Stir the water with your hand to dissolve the detergent. Keep in mind that many delicate wash detergents do not produce suds.
Step 3
Submerge the thong in the solution and let it sit for the duration suggested by the product. While most hand washing detergents advise three to five minutes for deodorizing, check your product's instructions. If the thong is made of very delicate fabric such as open-weave lace, do not soak the entire garment; instead, soak only the panel that touches your skin for the recommended time, and merely dip the fine fabric sections into the solution to deodorize.
Step 4
To hand wash personal stains, gently scrub the panel that contacts your skin using a back and forth motion. For instance, hold one end of the panel in your left hand and the other in your right. Once the thong is soaked, softly rub the two sides together until stains disappear. Repeat this step as needed.
Step 5
Squeeze the thong several times to release excess water.
Step 6
Run cold water and rinse the thong until all of the detergent is removed from the thong. Repeat this step until the thong is free of hand washing detergent.
Step 7
Place the thong flat on a towel to air-dry.
