Resizing a Coffee Table: A Step-by-Step Guide to Making It Smaller
A large coffee table can be reduced in size to fit a smaller space. However, if the table is an antique or a valuable piece, resizing it will lower its worth. For a basic coffee table, the task is straightforward and does not require a professional.

You can resize your coffee table to fit the other furniture in your den.
When you need a smaller coffee table, it is feasible to reduce the size of a large one. Keep in mind that if the table is an antique or a high-value item, cutting it down will reduce its worth. For an ordinary coffee table that requires resizing, the job is simple enough to handle on your own, without hiring a contractor or other professional.
Step 1
Take the table top off the legs and apron by removing the screws that hold them together at every corner and at each joint between the aprons and legs.
Step 2
Using a tape measure and pencil, measure and mark the table top to the desired size, then cut along the marked line with a circular saw.
Step 3
Use sandpaper on the edges of the table to eliminate any rough areas, and then refinish the table as you prefer.
Step 4
Measure the aprons to fit the new size of your coffee table and cut them so that each end sits far enough inside the bottom of the table to allow each leg to fit completely. For example, if each leg has a diameter of three inches, cut the aprons so that each end aligns 3 1/2 inches inside each corner.
Step 5
Fasten the legs to the aprons and then reattach the table top to the apron and legs.
