Installing Curtain Rods on Cement Walls: A Step-by-Step Guide
With the correct concrete fasteners, hanging curtain rods on cement can be nearly as simple as mounting them on other wall surfaces. Swap out the typical nails or screws for specialized concrete screws to ensure the hardware stays put and doesn't pull out. This guide walks through the process of installing concrete fasteners that securely hold curtain rods.

Hang curtain rods in cement with concrete screws.
When you use the appropriate fasteners, mounting curtain rods on cement is almost as straightforward as putting curtain rod hardware on other wall types. Instead of using the nails or screws that come with the curtain rods, opt for concrete fasteners. This way, you can safely install the hardware without it pulling out of the wall. The key is to learn how to install concrete fasteners that will hold the curtain rods securely.
Step 1
Decide where you want the curtain rod hardware to go. Hold one side of the hardware in place and use a pencil or marker to indicate where the screw holes should be by inserting the pencil or marker into the hole and making a mark on the cement.
Step 2
Pick a masonry drill bit that matches the size of the concrete screws you'll use. You can find this information on the concrete screw package label.
Step 3
Put on safety glasses or goggles.
Step 4
Attach the masonry drill bit to your drill and bore holes at each marked spot on the wall. Make each hole about 1/2 inch deeper than the length of the concrete screws you've chosen.
Step 5
Remove dust from the holes using a straw. Line up the straw with the hole, shield your eyes, and blow through the straw to clear it out.
Step 6
Insert concrete screws through the curtain rod hardware and into the pilot holes in the cement. Use a drill with a screwdriver bit to tighten them.
Step 7
Measure from the edge of the window to the side of the installed hardware. Use this measurement to mark where the hardware edge should go on the other side of the window.
Step 8
Place a level on the installed hardware and hold the edge of the hardware for the opposite side against the mark on the cement. If the level isn't long enough, put a longer straight board across the installed hardware and press the curtain rod hardware for the other side against the board. Set the level on top of the board. Adjust the hardware until the level indicates it's even with the installed hardware.
Step 9
Use a pencil or marker to indicate where the screw holes should be.
Step 10
Drill the holes as before with the suitable masonry bit. Blow out the dust with a straw. Secure the hardware in place using the screwdriver bit in your drill.
Step 11
Following the package instructions, hang the curtain rod on the installed hardware.
