Build Your Own Parade Flag Carrier from Tool Belt Parts

For long parade routes, carrying a large flag by hand can become difficult. A simple solution can be assembled using a sturdy belt and a belt-mounted phone pouch, both available at hardware or home improvement stores.

Patriotic events often feature parades organized by community groups, where national or local flags are displayed. Participants such as marching bands, service organizations, and Junior ROTC drill teams carry flags along the parade route during these outdoor celebrations. Smaller flags may be light enough to hold for a brief time, but those marching long distances with larger flags need a device to help carry them.

Step 1

Visit a nearby hardware store or home center and select an adjustable belt made from heavy-duty leather or nylon weave. You will find these in the contractor's tool area, where they are made for carpenters and tradespeople to hold their tools.

Step 2

In that same store section, buy a nylon cell phone carrier. Alongside hammer loops, nail bags, and bigger drill holsters, most home centers stock small heavy-duty nylon phone holsters. These phone-sized pouches come with a slip-on attachment that clips straight onto the tool belt.

Step 3

Thread the cell phone holster onto the tool belt and adjust the belt so it sits comfortably on your hips. You can place the holster right in the middle of the person's torso, or move it to one side to make carrying the flag as comfortable as possible.
