Turn Your Old Vinyl Records Into a Decorative Bowl
If you have old vinyl records lying around and aren't sure what to do with them, consider giving them a new life as a decorative bowl. With a few household items, you can repurpose a flat record into a unique piece for your home. Just keep in mind that vinyl isn't safe for food use, so don't serve anything in it.

Old vinyl records might seem obsolete, but if you still have some, they can be repurposed rather than discarded. Instead of letting them gather dust, you can transform them into a decorative bowl or hang them as wall art. The process is straightforward and results in a unique home accessory. However, remember that vinyl is not food safe, so it should never be used for serving food.

Step 1
Set your oven to 200 degrees. Choose an oven-safe bowl that is large enough to allow the melted record to drape over its sides without touching the cookie sheet. A smaller bowl won't work.
Step 2
Flip the bowl upside down and center the vinyl record on the bottom of the bowl.
Step 3
Set the bowl on the cookie sheet. The metal sheet provides a flat surface; placing the bowl directly on the oven rack might cause uneven melting.
Step 4
Put the cookie sheet with the bowl into the oven and let it heat for about 7 to 8 minutes. Check often by turning on the oven light and looking through the window, or by opening the door a crack to see if the record is melting and shaping correctly.
Step 5
Using potholders, take out the cookie sheet and set it on the stove. Quickly peel off the record. Turn the bowl right-side up and place the record inside it to hold its shape as it hardens.
Step 6
Let the record cool fully, then remove it from the bowl. You now have a recycled decorative bowl made from an old vinyl record.
