Heated oil can burn skin or cause a fire.
Using a home fragrance oil warmer is a simple and fast method to make your home smell nice, and these devices often double as attractive decor. While there are many different styles of oil warmers, safety must be a priority with all of them to prevent fires or injuries. Pay special attention when the warmer uses a candle as its heat source.
Step 1
Choose a stable, uncluttered location for your oil warmer to reduce fire hazards. Make sure the area is open and has good ventilation. Oil warmers work best in larger rooms.
Step 2
Check the label on your home fragrance oil bottle to find out the recommended amount to use. Pour that amount into the dish or reservoir of your oil warmer. If the dish can be removed, take it off to make lighting the candle safer.
Step 3
Get your tea light ready. An unscented tea light is preferable so that its smell does not clash with your fragrance oil. Put the tea light at the bottom of your oil warmer or in the candle holder section if your warmer has one. Locate the wick and straighten it.
Step 4
Use matches or a long-handled candle lighter to ignite the candle. Keep the flame away from the fragrance oil to prevent it from catching fire.
Step 5
If you removed the oil dish, put it back on top of the warmer. The warmer should start releasing fragrance into the room right away.
Step 6
Regularly inspect your oil warmer. Keep the oil dish filled to the proper level and watch for any smoke. If smoke appears, put out the candle, clean the warmer, and begin again with a fresh tea light.
Step 7
If you plan to leave the room for more than a few minutes, extinguish the candle.
Step 8
Wait until the oil and the holder have cooled completely before touching them.
