Part of the pleasure of hosting a Thanksgiving dinner is creating a beautiful dining room display. There's a unique thrill in pulling out the fine china, flatware, and treasured linens for a special event. This year, decorative napkin folding is certainly something to consider. However, if you're new to folding cloth napkins, don’t let it feel daunting. By following the step-by-step guide below, you can achieve an elegant yet simple look and enhance your dinner parties effortlessly.
Begin with a freshly pressed napkin
Make sure the napkin is crisp and ironed. A light mist of spray starch can help keep the folds sharp and neat.

Fold the napkin in half
Position the crease at the bottom, then fold the napkin in half.

Fold in half once more
Fold the napkin in half again toward the right, ensuring the creases are at the bottom and on the left side.

Bring down the top two layers
Fold down the top layer and tuck it underneath. Repeat with the next layer.

Fold the right side underneath
Take the right side and fold it under (toward the back) by about 2 inches.

Fold the left side underneath too
Turn the napkin over and fold the other side so both sides meet at the back.

Press the napkin flat
Press the napkin so that all creases are sharp and well-defined.

Add flowers and other accents
Insert flowers, leaves, and berries into the folds and pleats of the dinner napkins. Experiment with colors and textures. For a modern fall table palette, one idea is to pair peach with a camel-colored dinner napkin.

To keep your fall color scheme modern and fresh, try incorporating copper, peach, and camel. This works particularly well if you want an alternative to orange tones and are looking to try something different with your DIY projects.
Pay attention to the colors that catch your eye this season and inspire you. If you like jewel tones, some beautiful fall substitutes include swapping amber for orange and citrine for yellow. Introducing purple, amethyst, green, or emerald can provide a less conventional autumn pop of color. Coordinating fabric runners or runners in complementary hues can help tie the whole tablescape together.
