Natural and Sustainable Thanksgiving Name Card Projects
Three simple DIY approaches for dressing up your Thanksgiving table using pine cones, herb sprigs, and rosemary wreaths—each drawing on natural or reused materials.

As Thanksgiving approaches, many hosts begin thinking about how to decorate their holiday table. You do not need expert crafting abilities to put together an attractive arrangement. With a few straightforward eco-conscious place card projects, it is possible to dress up your table using only a handful of supplies and a bit of time.
Three distinct themes are offered here: pine cones, herb bouquets, and miniature rosemary wreaths. You can select whichever project fits your aesthetic or matches the materials already available to you. Every option relies on natural items or repurposed materials, which supports a more environmentally friendly holiday gathering.
Beyond that, these place card holders bring a warm, organic feel to your Thanksgiving table. They work nicely alongside wheat grass centerpieces, fresh apples, mini pumpkins, and linen napkins, though you are welcome to incorporate your own creative touches.
Pine Cone Place Cards

1. Make the name tags
Write each guest's name on the cardstock using your pen or marker. You can print the names or try calligraphy if you like. Then cut the names into strips. You may leave the strips as they are, or snip the ends at an angle for a decorative effect.

2. Attach the name tags
To finish your pine cone decorations, place a name tag at the top of each pine cone. Slip the paper between the pine cone's scales so it holds in place—if that does not work, a small dab of hot glue will do the job. Your pine cone name cards are now ready for the dinner table.

Herb Bouquet Place Cards

1. Make upcycled name tags
Stamp out each guest's name on the brown paper scraps using the alphabet stamps. Cut out each name, leaving additional space on the left side. Punch a hole in that space.

2. Assemble herb bouquets
Collect sprigs of fresh rosemary, sage, thyme, and/or oregano. Wrap jute cord around the base of each bunch. Twine, ribbon, or strips of burlap can also be used.

3. Add name tags
Thread the name tag onto the cord and tie a tight knot.

To round out your Thanksgiving table setting, place a mini bouquet at each seat.

Mini Rosemary Wreath Place Cards

1. Connect the rosemary sprigs
Begin by cutting the floral wire into strands of about 4 inches each.
Position the top of one rosemary sprig against the bottom hard stem of another. Wrap a strand of floral wire around the sprigs to bind them. Trim off the excess wire, then carefully press down the ends.
Follow the same steps to attach a third sprig.

2. Shape the wreath
Gently snap each sprig without breaking it completely, which makes them more flexible.
Join the ends with a strand of wire to form a circular shape.

3. Make the bow and name tags
For the place card holder's embellishment, tie a strand of ribbon or scrap fabric into a bow.

Write each guest's name on brown paper and cut them out.

Use hot glue to attach the bow to the top of the mini wreath, then slip the name tag between the leaves.
