Obtaining a Complimentary NYC Subway Map in Print

With some advance planning, you'll be navigating the subway comfortably in no time. The Metropolitan Transit Authority provides a free map of the NYC subway system that you can either download or ask to receive by mail.

Are you getting ready for an initial trip to New York City? The subway provides a low-cost and dependable means of reaching every area of the city. If you have never ridden the subway, it could come across as intimidating or bewildering. Getting to know a map of the subway network before you travel can assist you in moving around without hassle. With some advance preparation, you will quickly be able to navigate the subway without difficulty.
The Metropolitan Transit Authority offers a free map of the NYC subway system, which you can download or request from its website.
For downloading and printing:
First step
Check that Adobe Reader version 6.0 or a newer version is installed on your computer. If you must download Adobe or update your existing version, visit get.adobe.com/reader. Press "Download Now" and follow the on-screen instructions.
Second step
Navigate to mta.info/nyct/maps/submap.htm. Click the letters "PDF" located above the map. The map will then open as a PDF file.
Third step
Select the printer icon found in the upper left-hand corner. If necessary, change your printer settings and then click "OK."
For requesting a copy by mail:
First step
Visit mta-nyc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/mta_nyc.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php. Type in your email address.
Second step
From the "MTA Service" drop-down menu, choose "NYC Transit Subway." From the "Category" drop-down menu, choose "Information Request." In the Subject line, type "Request for subway map."
Third step
Compose a short email asking for a map to be sent by mail. Avoid lengthy explanations and keep it as brief as you can. Be sure to include your home address and your full name in the email. Click "Continue."
Fourth step
Provide your first name, last name and zip code, and verify your email address. Click "Next."
Fifth step
Click "Send Email." Write down the reference number for your email. It may take up to 15 business days to receive a reply.
