DIY Methods for Buffing Out Surface Scuffs on Polycarbonate or ABS Luggage
Checked bags take a beating from airport crews, and hard-sided cases often pick up visible marks along the way. For shallow blemishes, ordinary household items — water, a cloth, an eraser, and toothpaste — can be enough to improve the appearance without a trip to a repair shop.

Scratched hard-shell luggage can be repaired easily.
Durable luggage can serve you for many years, yet maintaining its appearance is not always simple. Because baggage handlers move suitcases around constantly, a hard-shell case can easily end up with a scratch. Removing that mark calls for a bit of ingenuity, though shallow scratches can typically be improved using a handful of simple approaches.
Step 1
Dampen a cloth with water and glide the wet cloth over the scratched areas. This helps lift faint surface scratches as well as oily marks.
Step 2
Move an eraser gently along the scratch, tracing its full length. Then use the cloth to clean away any eraser debris left behind.
Step 3
Put a dab of toothpaste onto the scratch. Using the toothbrush, spread and rub the toothpaste along the scratch with circular strokes. Remove the toothpaste afterward with the cloth.
