Frequent travelers are well aware that luggage endures rough treatment during transit. Samsonite is a reputable name in the travel gear industry, producing durable suitcases. However, even high-quality bags eventually require repair or replacement. You might own a suitcase that is no longer practical for trips but could still be useful for storage. Over time, the fabric may rip, or the wheels can deteriorate and become unstable. The following steps explain how to detach the wheels from a Samsonite suitcase.
Step 1

Place the suitcase on a stable, flat surface. Examine the underside where the wheels are mounted. Inspect the screws or bolts that secure the wheel plate to the suitcase to determine whether you need a drill, screwdriver, or wrench for removal. After identifying the right tool, begin unscrewing the screws or bolts gradually.
Step 2

Unzip or open the suitcase and locate the interior side where the caster plates are fastened. Use the grommet tool to take out the grommets that hold the caster plate in place. A hammer may be necessary to help lift the grommets. Gently tap the grommet tool until all grommets are freed.
Step 3

Extract the wheels from the suitcase and carefully detach the caster plate. Set the bolts or screws aside. The caster plate should now come off easily. If it remains stuck, use the flat end of a screwdriver along with a hammer to gently tap the caster plate away from the suitcase.
