The 1979 Yamaha Enticer 340 is a quality snowmobile that can still be found in operation

Yamaha launched its Enticer line of snowmobiles in 1979. These machines were built to cover long distances over snow at high speeds. Their durable construction means that many are still found today, either for sale or in private hands. If you're considering a used Enticer 340, knowing its key specifications will help you make an informed decision.

Drive System

At the heart of the Enticer 340's operation is an internal dual drive system. This setup was common across nearly all Yamaha snowmobiles from that era. Each unit features a capacitive discharge (CD) ignition system, which has earned a reputation for toughness, particularly among those who race vintage snowmobiles.

Dimensions

The Yamaha Enticer 340 is longer than many comparable models, measuring 105.11 inches in length, 38.19 inches in width, and 40.95 inches in height. It is a sturdy snowmobile capable of accommodating more than one rider. The ski stance measures 33.46 inches, and the vehicle weighs 360.8 pounds.

Fuel and Oil Tanks

The fuel tank holds six gallons, allowing the snowmobile to travel many miles before needing a refill. The oil tank has a capacity of 2.5 quarts. While actual mileage depends on distance covered and any additional weight carried, the SnowGoer website gave it high marks for fuel efficiency relative to other snowmobiles of its time.

Engine

Every Enticer 340 comes with a two-stroke, fan-cooled twin engine built specifically for this snowmobile. It produces a maximum of 32 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and a peak torque of 25 foot-pounds at 6,000 rpm. With an engine displacement of 440 cubic centimeters, the Enticer can reach a top speed of 55 mph on snow.

Suspension and Track

The suspension consists of a side rail design with idler wheels, and the track is constructed from fiberglass-reinforced rubber. This combination enables the Enticer to glide through snow smoothly and evenly, which is especially advantageous on rougher snowy surfaces.

Carburetor

A Mikuni B38-34 valve butterfly carburetor is standard on each model, providing smoother throttle response and improved performance. It works in tandem with the clutch, offering a straightforward yet effective way to control your speed. The carburetor and related components receive automatic lubrication.
