Essential Instruments for Accurate Pipe Installation and Repair
Pipework is a core element of plumbing systems, and improper installation can cause leaks that waste water or release non-water substances. In gardens and industrial settings, poorly fitted pipes may harm plants or machinery. Learn About Pipe Fitter Tools
Pipework is a core element of plumbing systems, and improper installation can cause leaks that waste water or release non-water substances. In gardens and industrial settings, poorly fitted pipes may harm plants or machinery. Therefore, pipe fitters rely on a range of specialized tools—some for installation, others for repair—to achieve correct fits.
Quality Control Welders’ Gauge
For pipe fitting, the quality control welders' gauge is a fundamental instrument. When a pipe is joined at its source, it needs to have the correct dimensions and be made of the appropriate material. The material chosen depends on how the pipe will be used. Smaller applications typically call for lighter, thinner pipes, while larger ones require heavier, thicker pipes. A welder's gauge is a device that inspects pipe quality. It examines the weld at the pipe's source for concerns including preparation angle, alignment, fillet weld length, and fillet weld throat. This tool is generally applied to metal pipes.
Pipe Fitters Square
Another key tool in a pipefitter's kit is the pipe fitters square. This instrument ensures that the pipe remains stable for correct alignment and that it is aligned as required. When a pipe is attached to its source, it typically bends at either 45 or 90 degrees. Although these two angles are the most common, pipes are also frequently fitted into joint angles that do not match these standard degrees. For fitting a pipe at any non-standard angle, the pipefitter's square is employed. Its basic design consists of a planar member with linear exterior edges at various degrees, allowing the proper angle to be created on the pipe.
Fitter Grips
Fitter grips are also among the important tools that pipefitters use. They serve to join pipes together or secure pipes to joints. This tool is straightforward to operate. The pipe fitter must grasp the pipe with the fitter grips, position the pipe in the correct location, and lock the fitter grips in place while welding the pipe to the joint or to other pipes.
