Iconic Movie Sweaters You Can Actually Buy This Season
We're rounding up some of the most memorable holiday sweaters from films and TV, and pointing you to real-world options that capture the same look.
By Harper Cooper

What do Mark Darcy in Bridget Jones' Diary, Kevin McCallister in Home Alone, and Ron Weasley from the Harry Potter films share? They're all characters from movies we love, sure. But they also each wore a holiday sweater that became part of the film's identity. With the holiday season in full swing and any excuse to mention Chris Evans' sweater in Knives Out, we've put together a list of our favorite famous holiday sweaters and where you can find similar pieces to buy.
If you need a gift for someone who loves movies, or you just want to channel Wednesday Addams, these wearable options are more enjoyable than those TV movies where a big-city lawyer discovers she belongs in the country...and her boyfriend might be Santa.

1. Wednesday Addams' Checkered Sweater Vest from "Wednesday"
$34.99 at Amazon

Bring some gloom and sarcasm to the holidays with an oversized black and white checkerboard sweater vest inspired by Wednesday Addams' dark yet stylish wardrobe in the Netflix series. You may not dominate the dance floor like Wednesday, but you can at least stay warm and fashionable in this Amazon find while plotting your revenge all winter.
2. Chris Evans’ Sweater from "Knives Out"
$109.00 at L.L. Bean

Ever since the first Knives Out came out in 2019, the off-white sweater Chris Evans wore as Ransom Drysdale has become a favorite among fashion fans and movie lovers. It's hard to say exactly why it's so appealing (we suspect the man wearing it has something to do with it), but you can find near-identical versions of the classic Aran sweater (an Irish design) online. L.L. Bean's Signature Cotton Fisherman Sweater is a great match. Your boyfriend won't turn into Chris Evans when you give him this cream-colored cable-knit, but he'll have the look down.
3. Mark Darcy’s Reindeer Sweater from "Bridget Jones’ Diary"
$31.08 at Zazzle

It might not be a full-fledged Christmas movie, but Bridget Jones' Diary has the laughs and heart for holiday watching. The 2001 film gave ugly Christmas sweaters a moment on screen when Mark Darcy (played by Colin Firth) wore a pullover with a reindeer face right in the middle. Zazzle has a reindeer sweatshirt inspired by Darcy's sweater. Cheeky diary dialogue not included!
4. Lindsay Lohan’s “Apres-Ski” Sweater from "Falling For Christmas"
$52.00 at ASOS

Admit it: you watched Lindsay Lohan's Netflix Christmas movie Falling For Christmas and enjoyed it. You probably also admired her soon-to-be iconic blue "aprés-ski" sweater, which looked incredibly soft and cozy on screen. An identical design at ASOS was sold out when we looked, but you can check for a restock or get a similar pullover sweatshirt from J.Crew.
5. Weasley Knitted Sweaters from "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone"
$115.30 at Etsy.com/Shop/KnitNerdCo

Go to Hogwarts this Christmas with your own version of a cozy crew-neck sweater that rivals Mrs. Weasley's. U.K.-based Etsy artisan KnitNerdCo makes personalized initial sweaters in almost any color and ships worldwide. Get one for yourself and one for your best friend—we think the Weasley crew would approve.
5. Buddy the Elf's Green Suit from "Elf"
$24.97 at Nordstrom Rack

You might not want to walk around in Buddy the Elf's pointy-toe shoes, but you can still capture his enthusiasm and holiday spirit with an elf suit pullover from Nordstrom Rack that matches Buddy's signature outfit. Embroidered with real jingle bells and a mock white collar, this crew-neck sweater is a great gift for the friend who quotes Elf even in summer. You know the one.
6. Kevin’s Red Pullover from "Home Alone"
$35.00 at Old Navy

The '90s vibes are strong in Home Alone, a modern classic with all the elements of a great Christmas movie: holiday pranks, lessons about the true meaning of Christmas, family drama, and a main character who wears a classic seasonal sweater while outsmarting crooks. Kevin's outfits aren't the main focus, but you can find a convincing dupe at Old Navy and wait for the recipient to strike that classic "hands on cheeks, mouth open" pose.
8. Keira Knightley’s Short-Sleeve Sweater from "Love Actually"
$178.00 at Lululemon

For the person who says it's not Christmas until they watch Love Actually, consider a copycat version of the short-sleeve white sweater Keira Knightley wears in the famous "To Me, You Are Perfect" sign scene. Many of the film's fashion choices scream 2003 (we're looking at you, Andrew Lincoln in a multicolor zip-up), but Keira's white pullover captures a timeless look. Lululemon has a similarly styled brushed cotton top that will help a lucky recipient (or you!) embrace the love this holiday season.
9. Jimmy Stewart’s Striped Turtleneck from "It’s A Wonderful Life"
$37.50 at Banana Republic

Nothing says feel-good viewing like It's A Wonderful Life. We searched high and low for a sweater that perfectly matches Jimmy Stewart's white-striped turtleneck with the number nine, but it seems to be an original design. If you really want to gift a lookalike, Banana Republic offers a soft yarn pullover with a warm turtleneck and large, abstract stripes. Or check out Wooden Ships for a customizable number sweater that keeps the look alive.
10. Ralphie’s Pink Bunny Suit from "A Christmas Story"
$50.12 at Amazon

Last but not least, we're visiting what might be the most beloved holiday film of all time: A Christmas Story. Whether you watch it every year or just catch bits when it airs on a loop all season, you've surely seen the famous bunny suit scene more times than you can count. It's not a sweater, but we had to include a buyable version of Ralphie's pink onesie, floppy ears and all. Order it, put the bunny suit in a nicely wrapped box, and make your loved one put on a stairway fashion show in their new outfit. After all, isn't familial embarrassment what the holidays are about?
